I remember Rosa coming in very quietly for her first workout. She got through a pretty tough workout without once complaining, without running out the door and I didn’t see any tears….while she was here. She even came back for more!!
Rosa is now one of RA’s most consistent members that is continuously challenging herself, trying new classes and crushing her goals. We have watched her transform and celebrated her bachelorette and wedding as a RA family. We admire her seriously sculpted legs and willingness to always be up for a new challenge…after she gives me the “are you kidding me?” stare.
Congratulations Rosa on being the silent sufferer, the quiet force to be reckoned with and one bad a$$ strong woman!
I first heard about RiseAbove in November 2017 at the Bolton Home Hardware Ladies Night. That was also the first time I met Matt and Cheri. I stopped by their booth and they explained what RiseAbove was about and where they were located. They mentioned they were holding a draw for a free month membership so I entered my name. I didn’t think I would actually win, but was later contacted by Matt and scheduled a time to check out the studio. Soon after I signed up for my first class and that’s when my journey with RiseAbove began.
I had previously tried various classes with a friend: Survivor Bootcamp, Zumba, Hot Yoga, and Kickboxing, but they were all short term and getting our schedules to match wasn’t easy. I then started walking after work for 1-2 hours per day to ensure I was getting in some kind of activity. Over the years I started building up my own little workout area in my basement but started finding using equipment boring and becoming a challenge to stay motivated on my own. Work was also keeping me busy and without realizing it I found myself working longer hours and skipping out on my workouts. I needed to get back in shape and wanted to have more energy. I needed a change!
I will never forget day one. The elusive workout called ‘Ride the Rack”. Um sure okay, ya, I can do that, no problem! I started to doubt myself during the workout and thought this is going to be the longest hour ever, especially when the timer wasn’t beeping to say the minute was up. Really, a minute must be over by now! But Cheri was with me along the way, supporting and encouraging me, ensuring I didn’t give up. Ok, first class done, I survived! Let’s just say that was the only day I showed up that week! I couldn’t move for days (I know most of you know what I am talking about). But that didn’t stop me. I returned the following week for a few more classes and completed my free month. I liked the classes and results I was starting to see so I then signed up for 6 months, and then a year, and still going.
From the moment I walked into that door, I was greeted with smiling faces and open arms. Everyone has been so encouraging along the way and this is one place where I never feel intimidated.
As I continue my journey, I encourage those that haven’t started theirs yet to try RiseAbove, you won’t regret it. Sorry, I still can’t say “I love burpees” (they are slowly growing on me), but I love that I met Matt and Cheri, the members, the workouts, and the variety of classes. Attending classes at RiseAbove has become my new routine and has helped me feel better, become stronger, and have more energy.
This is where the magic happens and along the way gaining lasting friendships and being part of an ever growing family.
